Jan Melis was born in 1966 in The Netherlands and graduated from the Academy of Industrial Design Eindhoven in 1991 (now the Design Academy). Since then he has worked independently as a product and interior designer.
In the early years his works mainly consisted of exhibition design and several interior projects under assignment. His varied collection of interior products, for example lighting, furniture and various other products are produced successfully under his own management. His designs distinguish themselves through original concepts in a clear shape, mostly using tactile materials and inventive production methods. Jan Melis has some successfully recognised products under his name, for example the Waterfall Shower that was included in the Droog Design collection in 1997; his XD pouf was presented in 1998 at the International Design Fair in Milan by Droog Design. His designs have been exhibited and published internationally. Jan has also much success working under assignment for various manufacturers and commissioners.
