In Royal Tichelaar Makkum’s craft store shows Hella Jongerius’ newest work. The results will be presented of comprehensive research, carried out by Jongerius and Royal Tichelaar, into the effects of porcelain colouring techniques. In the project, Jongerius’ colour preferences are highlighted, with red and green in glazing and hand painting, and pigment coloured clay for shades of grey and brown. The challenging idea of extending her oldest design, the B-set, in a wide ranging colour research project with Tichelaar, appealed to Jongerius as worthy of an exhibition.

van Slobbe and Royal Tichelaar present a new series of jewelry: ‘Pearls
from Makkum’, a series of bigger-than-natural porcelain ‘pearls’:
round, bevelled or bisected, and finished with various glazings and decorations.
The ornaments can be bought either as complete necklace or be composed
by the client from the assorted ‘pearls’ in any combination
of colour and shape, to form a unique string of ‘pearls’.
The individual stones are strung on a 100% silk ribbon or cord. The necklace
will be presented in a luxury gift box. About a year ago Van Slobbe and
Tichelaar decided to realise their ambition with gusto and strengthen
surviving craftsmanship in the Netherlands through innovative design.
This project does in fact crown a longer standing successful relationship.
Op 16 juni 2005 is flagship store van Royal Tichelaar officieel geopend. Een plek waar op 1.200 m2 zowel het traditionele ambacht als hedendaagse vormgeving wordt gepresenteerd. Bezoekers zien een mix aan stijlen, prijzen en materialen, hebben de mogelijkheid om heerlijk te lunchen bij "De Bakkerswinkel" en de fabriek te bezoeken. De winkel is compleet verbouwd door het gerenommeerde Amsterdamse architectenbureau Merkx & Girod. Evelyne Merkx en Patrice Girod hebben een nieuwe inrichting ontworpen door met enkele krachtige ingrepen de verschillende panden tot een overzichtelijke ruimte samen te voegen.
