March 6 Maison Folie was opened by M. Martine Aubry, mayor of Lille. The Maison Folie is part of the program of 'Lille, Cultural Capital of Europe 2004' and after this year the complex will function as an urban art center where global art flows are mixed with local program. The complex consists of two parts, a renovation of an old textile factory with an exhibition center, a hammam, a brasserie, art studios, a party space, a small library and, second, a newly built 'salle de spectacles' that includes music studios, offices and foyer. The attached picture shows this structure during the opening festivities, attended by some 20,000 inhabitants and cultural tourists.
