| World's
first Graphic Design Museum opened in Breda June 11, 2008 Her Majesty Queen Beatrix opened the Graphic Design Museum, Beyerd Breda, the first museum in the world that concentrates specifically on graphic design. An institute that will act as museum, knowledge centre, teaching environment, shop for image culture, designer café and production house for graphic design. The Graphic Design Museum offers established designers an international stage and is, at the same time, a spring-board for new top talent. The mission of the museum is to gather, manage and maintain information and knowledge about the history of the graphic design profession. This knowledge will be passed on in an accessible and comprehensible way to the young, to young adults, to the general public interested in culture and to professionals. The last hundred
years are brought to life for everybody in an interactive exhibition which
includes work by Piet Zwart, Wim Crouwel, Anthon Beeke and Erik Kessels.
Children will themselves become designers and can publish idea with various
shapes, colours, materials, signs and pictograms. The young will be confronted
in a fascinating way with the way famous Dutch and international designers
have struggled with the major issues of this period. They watch as rejected
work, semi-finished items and the final result rolls out of the lab live.
Adults get deeper insight into the image culture and technology of the
past and the present. Bring your visit to a perfect conclusion in Sandberg,
the museum cafe and find something that may surprise you in the Graphic
DesignShop. |
