The Family of Form - 60 years Design Academy Eindhoven

January 13 / March 23, 2008

Designhuis Eindhoven

The Family of Form, an exhibition with works of three generations of graduates from Design Academy Eindhoven. In 2007 the exhibition was received with much enthusiasm at the Salone del Mobile in Milan and the Institut Néerlandais in Paris. Now for the first time and in its most extensive form The Family of Form can be admired in the Netherlands. The reason for this retrospective is the sixtieth anniversary of the Design Academy Eindhoven.

Maarten Baas, Piet Hein Eek, Joris Laarman, Hella Jongerius, and Nacho Carbonell. These are just a few of the host of designers whose work will be put on display. In an overview of sixty years Design Academy Eindhoven, well-known designs like the Bugaboo, and the Citybike by Giant are rubbing shoulders with the designs of the latest crop of design graduates.

The Family of Form testifies to the theme that has developed over the past years: the pursuit of the identity of design. The young designer investigates the ideals of beauty and individuality, and the materialization of physical or virtual form. He searches for human and personal values, for dignity and balance. He reaches surprising insights, dares to make a stand, designs new materials, and invents new techniques.Time and weight measuring instruments are deployed in innovative ways, and there is a predilection for manual connections and mechanical movements.
